2018 Maori Representation Poll Result

The final results of the poll to determine whether Manawatū District should create a Māori Ward have been received.

The result of the poll is that the Manawatū District will not be establishing a Māori Ward.

“We have had a very good voter turnout with 43% of eligible voters participating” says Mayor Helen Worboys.

“While Council originally voted to create a Māori Ward, the vote has shown that the community does not agree and we respect that view.”

The final vote count is:

Against: 7,268    77.04%

For:        2,147    22.76%

The voter return was 44.47%  (9,434 votes)
