Delays in Consent Inspections

The Manawatu District is continuing to experience positive signs of growth and development. With strong population and employment prosperity, the demand for residential housing is high. Land values have increased by 448% since 1994.

This is putting an increased pressure on the Council’s Building Consents team who have staff on extended sick leave. As a result, inspection timeframes are being pushed out.

The Manawatu District Council are utilising contractors and liaising with Palmerston North City Council for additional support where possible.

Regulatory Manager Karel Boakes urges residents to plan ahead as much as possible when it comes to booking inspections.

“Please ensure that you are prepared and ready for an inspection to avoid the need for a re-inspection which puts an increased pressure on time and our already stretched resources,” she says.

“If you need an inspection urgently please contact Chris Henry, Building Services Team Leader on 06 323 0000 ext. 871 or 027 355 4544.”
