New pool safety legislation comes into effect
(Posted on: December 19)
From 1 January 2017, there will be a number of changes to New Zealand pool safety legislation.
The Building (Pools) Amendment Act 2016 will repeal the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987 and add new provisions to the Building Act 2004.
Key changes include:
- residential swimming pools must be inspected every three years
- safety covers will be able to be used as barriers for spa pools and hot tubs
- territorial authorities will have better tools to enforce pool barrier requirements, including notices to fix and infringement notices.
