Westpac Manawatū Business Awards Finalists

(Posted on: September 28)

Congratulations to the 22 Manawatū and Palmerston North businesses that were named as finalists in the Westpac Manawatū Business awards last night.

Manawatū District Council and Palmerston North City Council jointly sponsored the Not for Profit category that saw Just Zilch, MASH Trust, PN Esplanade Scenic Railway and Te Manawa Museum of Art, Science and History nominated as finalists.

Mayor Helen Worboys said that often not for profit organisations were are overlooked in a business sense, but they make a significant contribution to the vibrancy of the community.

“It can argued that operating a successful not profit business that relies on volunteers can be even more of a challenge than what we see as conventional businesses.”

The Awards, held every two years, are designed to celebrate the best in business in Palmerston North and Manawatū .  This year the Awards received 115 unique nominations, 48 of which progressed through to preliminary judging.

Judges emphasised the businesses’ enthusiasm and dedication to grow through implementing digital technology and investing in upskilling their staff.

Worboys says becoming a finalist recognises the achievement of the company in and should be seen as providing inspiration to others.

“It is not the size of the organisation or how long it has been around that matters, it is the desire and drive to achieve across in all areas of business that matters.  The finalists tonight have shown they have these attributes and how others can also achieve.”

Four Manawatū businesses have been named as finalists; Stock Trim Software, AgFirst Manawatū Whanganui, Advanced Accounting & Business Advisory Limited and Totally Vets and Lady Blue was highly commended.

Westpac NZ General Manager of Commercial, Corporate and Institutional Banking, Karen Silk, says the Awards provide businesses with a chance to reflect on their achievements and celebrate their successes.

The finalists will go through another round of judging, before the Gala Awards Night at Silks Lounge at Awapuni Racecourse on 16 November. There, the category winners, the Lifetime Service Award and the Westpac Supreme Business Award will be announced.

The category winners will be announced on Tuesday 16 November.
