Manawatu District Council is committed to waste reduction

Manawatu District Council provides rubbish and recycling services throughout the Manawatu District in an efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective way.

In 2017, Council adopted its Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (2MB pdf). The goals of that Plan are:

Waste Management – to deliver efficient and cost effective solid waste services to customers while safeguarding public health, taking into account cultural issues and minimising adverse effects on the environment.

Waste Minimisation – to promote waste reduction towards zero waste through education, development and implementation of recycling, reuse and recovery methods.

MAJOR PROJECTS

  • Implementation of the Agrecovery programme. The purpose of the programme is to manage the environmental effects of agrichemical containers and bale wraps.
  • District-wide Waste Education Strategy, which includes Paper for Trees sponsorship and Zero Waste Education programme for schools
