Southern Manawatu Rural Ward

  Jo Heslop 021549511  raroa1@farmside.co.nz

I have lived in the Manawatu for 36years.I am married with two adult children. I have served one term as a Southern Manawatu Councillor. I have learned a lot in the last three years. I have learned the value of listening and understanding diverse viewpoints. I have accepted responsibility in making strategic decisions. I have learned to manage my emotions. I have learned that public consultation is a serious matter.

The Manawatu District Council has exciting economic prospects ahead, both urban and rural. With the right team at the helm, these developments will flourish and the Manawatu will thrive. I would like to represent the Southern Ward for the next three years as a member of that team.

I will continue to listen to all points of view, represent you to the best of my ability and always do what I say I will do.

  Kara Lummis 0211166835 karmakara@xtra.co.nz
I live at Himatangi Beach and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I’m in my final year of fulltime, extramural study at Massey University, completing a BA in Education. I work at Oroua Downs School, the Himatangi Beach Store and the Co-operative Bank. I am a co-opted Trustee of the Manawatu College Board of Trustees. I have extensive experience as a successful business owner in Wellington and overseas.

I believe I have an excellent skill set to offer, one that is analytical, creative, and flexible. I am not afraid to ask the hard questions.

One of my passions, and challenges, is to find the balance between providing for our different requirements, whilst still keeping the rates affordable.

I would like to help build resilient, cohesive communities which are strategically future focused, so that we are both well placed now and able to move strongly into the future.

I’m Philson Marsh, 57 and married to Kathryn.  We have owned Paper Plus and Bookmark Cafe in Feilding’s CBD for 12 years, growing despite compliance and financials demands. We work hard, listen to our community and advocate for the issues we hold dear and the people they affect.

My business background is in agri-management, sales and marketing, Passions are family, community, occasional golf and promoting Manawatu District with its diverse communities. Strengths are communication and governance, including BOT for 3 schools, chairing two.  I was an active member of Lions for many years.

I am currently Chairman of the Himatangi Beach Community Committee.  With Council we are implementing change for our community and those who benefit from this unique beach, a vulnerable environment needing careful stewardship. My strength lies in guiding processes to achieve sustainable, affordable and pragmatic solutions, with an eye for conservation and a legacy for future generations.

What a great place the Manawatu is, the last 3 years have just flown by and it has been an enormous honour to be one of your councillors.  I have really enjoyed working with rate payers, addressing their issues and assisting community groups to achieve their goals.  My focus is always to ensure that ratepayer’s interests are represented at the council table.

With my wife Marilyn and son and daughter in law we farm a sheep and beef property just out of Rongotea.  I am an active member of the Rongotea Lions club and also a member of the Rongotea RSA.  I have lived and worked in the district all my life and have a strong understanding of the issues facing the Southern Ward.

The issues I support are maintaining rate affordability, a focus on essential services, strong community voice, increased transparency/governance and economic growth.

  Howard Voss 063569779 bhvoss@xtra.co.nz

I am a sheep, beef and cropping farmer near Longburn. Married to Beth for 39 years and with three adult sons I am seeking your support for another term on the Manawatu District Council. With 17 years experience in local government politics, I have a wealth of experience, a full understanding of Council processes and a proven record of helping my constituents.

As a good listener and a strategic thinker  I challenge policy decisions to achieve the best outcome for the District as a whole. With integrity  I bring a practical, commonsense approach to those issues that will shape our future such as quality infrastructure and shared services.

I promise to do my best to get top value from our rates enabling the economic growth of the District to continue and to take your aspirations to the Council table.
