Walking and Cycling Strategy

What will the Walking and Cycling strategy do?

The Walking and Cycling Strategy will identify projects and initiatives that can be developed by Council and other strategic partners to increase participation in walking and cycling.

Promoting and enhancing walking and cycling is expected to contribute towards improved accessibility, safety, health and economic growth for our community.

Developing the Strategy will also assist us in co-ordinating and prioritising the many requests for walkways and cycleways received from the community, and enable a co-ordinated approach to delivering wider initiatives that will encourage people to travel by foot or by bike more often. The strategy will also contribute towards Council’s vision to create a “Connected, vibrant and thriving Manawatu District”.

How can you help?

We are in the initial stages of developing the Walking and Cycling Strategy for the District. Feedback we receive from the community is important in helping us to identify current issues.

We would like to hear your thoughts on what you think should be considered within the Strategy.

We are keen to understand:

  • How often do you travel by foot or by bike?
  • What are the barriers to walking and cycling within the Manawatū?
  • What improvements or initiatives would make you consider walking and cycling more often?
  • Is there anything else that you would like Council to consider when developing the Strategy?

Feedback on the Walking and Cycling Strategy has now closed.
