Date Responded:25/07/2022
Requester Name:Randall McDonnell
Organisation:GNS Science | Te Pū Ao
Requested Information:

I have been asked to provide a summary of data of investment intentions in various areas of science research that GNS Science and other Crown Research Institutes invest time and resources for the betterment of New Zealand.

I'd like to do this as efficiently as possible so that GNS Science can offer the resources and research to those who need them.

It would be of great assistance if you provide the data below including details of the person responsible for approving the research projects and budget spend by applicable subject area

If you have any questions please call or email me.

I also hope that completing this table might also be useful resource for your council. I am happy to share the national results once I collate them.

If research has been commissioned in the last three years, would you please provide details. This will help us include that body of research into our library system to discover science knowledge

Hello again,

A little more context will be useful after I sent you my initial request for information on research budgets.

I have asked all councils, regional and local for information. You do not need to refer any questions to the regional councils.

There are clearly areas that fall in the regional council responsibility – an N/A response is ok.

I included them in the list, just in case there were outliers, or a council contributed budget to a wider or collaborative piece of work.

The aim is to find out what the budget landscape looks like for scientific research. It is an indicator of investment intentions that will help with planning capacity and capability.

It will also help to identify gaps which our researchers advise need attention which will help with advocating research priorities.

Regarding technical reports, I am attempting to compile a national bibliographic index together so previous work for councils can be accessed by researchers.

If you have metadata in the form of a library index reference for any reports that would be very helpful
