Upcoming Road Closures
Below is a list of upcoming road closures that are scheduled to take place in 2024 and 2025 due to planned maintenance work or events being held.
Proposed Temporary Closure of Manchester Street and Manchester Square
PURSUANT to Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Manawatū District Council, for the purpose of permitting Feilding Hot Rod and Classic Car Club to conduct a charity event display of hot rods and classic cars, proposes to close the following roads listed hereunder to ordinary vehicular traffic on Saturday 15 November 2025 from 8.00am until 2.00pm.
Manchester Street – from its intersection with Bowen Street to its intersection with Kimbolton Road
Manchester Square - from its intersection with Kimbolton Road at the Feilding hotel to its intersection with Kimbolton Road at YOU travel.
Any person objecting to the proposals is called upon to lodge notice of their objection and grounds thereof in writing, before 4.00 pm, Friday 27 June 2025, at the office of the Manawatū District Council, Private Bag 10001, Feilding, or email public@mdc.govt.nz. Any objections received by Manawatū District Council for this proposed road closure may be passed on to the Event Organiser. This may include contact details to allow the Event Organiser to make contact to discuss and attempt to resolve any concerns with the person/s submitting an objection.
Temporary Closure of Manchester Street
PURSUANT to Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Manawatū District Council, for the purpose of permitting Feilding Promotions Inc to conduct Matariki Day, will close the portion of Manchester Street between the paved quadrant and the grass quadrant of Manchester Square on Friday 20 June 2025 from 7.30am until 1.30pm.
Proposed Temporary Road Closures - Targa Rally
PURSUANT to Section 342 (b) and the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at its meeting on 24 July 2025, the Manawatū District Council intends to consider closing the roads as listed below for the purpose of permitting Club Targa Inc. to conduct the Targa rally 2023 on Saturday 18 October 2025.
Roads proposed to be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic:
Stage SS24 and SS25: Pohangina - Takapari
Date of Closure: Saturday 18 October 2025
Time of Closure: 08.00am to 01.00pm
Pohangina Valley East Road, from its intersection with Awahou South Road, to its intersection with Oroua Valley Road.
* Note: To assist with the stage security, the closure is also to include 100 metres of each adjoining road, from where it intersects with the road being applied for.
Adjoining Roads: No. 3 Line (no exit). No.2 Line (no exit) No. 1 Line (no exit) Opawe Road (no exit) Churchill Road (no exit)Arbons Road (no exit), Takapari Road (no exit), Piripiri Road (no exit), Makoura Road, Norsewood Road (no exit) Umutoi North Road (including Pettigrew Road, no exit), Tunipo Road (no exit) and Cawood Road (no exit).
Stage SS26: Oroua Valley - Ruahine
Date of Closure: Saturday 18 October 2025
Time of Closure: 09.30am to 02.00pm
Main South Road - from 350 metres from its intersection with Table Flat Road/Nixs Road, to its intersection with Te Parapara Road.
Te Parapara Road - from its intersection with Main South Road to its intersection with Rangiwahia Road/Ruahine Road
Ruahine Road – from its intersection with Te Parapara Road/ Rangiwahia Road, to its intersection with Kawhatau Valley Road.
* Note: To assist with the stage security, the closure is also to include 100 metres of each adjoining road, from where it intersects with the road being applied for.
Adjoining Roads: Conspicuous Road (no exit), East Mangahuia (no exit) West Mangahuia Road (no exit) Renfrew Road (no exit), Karewarewa Road, Kelpie Road/Lagoon Road (no exit), Halls Road (no exit).
Any person objecting to the proposals is called upon to lodge notice of his/her objection and grounds thereof in writing, before 4.00 pm, Friday 6 June 2025, at the office of the Manawatū District Council, Private Bag 10001, Feilding. Email public@mdc.govt.nz. Any objections received by Manawatū District Council for this proposed road closure may be passed on to the Event Organiser. This may include contact details to allow the Event Organiser to make contact to discuss and attempt to resolve any concerns with the person/s submitting an objection.
Should the Manawatū District Council decide to close the said roads, a public notice shall be given.
Temporary Lane Closure Darragh Road
Manawatū District Council wishes to advise that a temporary lane closure will be in place on Darragh Road starting Monday 26 May 2025 until 22 June 2025, while works are undertaken to install a new wastewater main.
The closure will affect east bound traffic, traveling from Kawakawa Road to Turners Road. All access to Darragh Road during the closure will be from Turners Road. A sign posted detour will be in place during the lane closure.
Manawatū District Council regrets any inconvenience caused.
UPDATE - Temporary Closure of Nixs Road
Manawatū District Council wishes to advise that PURSUANT to Section 342 (b) and the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, Nixs Road will be closed from its intersection with Oroua Valley Road to the road end, from 7.00am on Tuesday 10 June until 6.00pm on Wednesday 11 June 2025, weather permitting, for the purpose of installing an underpass. Should weather or conditions outside of the contractors control delay the works and closure will be undertaken on the next suitable dates.
Residents with light vehicles will have access to their properties during this closure, please follow instructions from contractors onsite and expect delays.
Temporary Closure of Fiona Crescent (includes Calder Place, Craig Court and Mayfair Court)
Manawatū District Council wishes to advise that PURSUANT to Section 342 (b) and the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, Fiona Crescent will be closed from its intersection with Nancy Avenue to the road end, from 10.00am until 4.00pm on Tuesday 3 June 2025, due to a crane to operating from the roadside. The closure also affects access to Calder Place, Craig Court and Mayfair Court. Should weather or conditions outside of the contractors control delay the works, the closure will be undertaken on the next suitable date.
Residents will have pedestrian only access to their properties during this closure, please follow instructions from contractors onsite and expect delays.

Update - Churchill Road Bridge
Manawatū District Council wishes to advise that construction is due to start to replace the Churchill Road Bridge. Access to Totara Reserve is available only via Pohangina Valley East Road.
No access is available from Pohangina Road.
It is expected that the road will remain closed until November 2025.
