Dear Karlos,

Official information request for - Details of costs of providing sand and sandbags, and decision process. Also, who does drain maintenance in Feilding and how often.

I refer to your official information request dated 11 July 2022.

Part of the information you have requested is below. However, we have decided to refuse your request for information which relates to -  How much the bags cost and  How much the sand cost.  

This information is being withheld under section 7 (2)(b)(ii) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, as it would be likely to unreasonably prejudice the commercial position of the companies who are the subjects of the information.

The answers to your remaining questions are below.

What company was used to purchase these items?

There were 4 companies used to source resources. Smart Pack Limited, Rangitikei Aggregates, Tim McColl Contracting Limited, Higgins Contractors Feilding.

Was there any consultancy involved in this process?

No public consultancy was involved.

Who made the overall decision to approve this activity?

Chief Executive of Manawatū District Council.

Does MDC have a team that maintains the drains around Feilding?

Higgins are contracted to maintain drains around Feilding.

If so how often do they maintain the drains?

The drains are being monitored weekly and maintained as and when required.

I'm going to need it all in detail and a breakdown of the costs where the money came out and what was free and what wasn't

All budget expenditure came from the Civil Defence Emergency Management budget or through the normal annual roading contract with Higgins Contractors. Those budgets are available in our Annual Plan https://www.mdc.govt.nz/documents/plans/annual-plan.
As above a detailed breakdown of costs by supplier is not available. All other information available has already been released through our media release https://www.mdc.govt.nz/news/2022/media-release-operation-sandbag on the 13th of July 2022.
