Drop into the bowl or bomb into the pool with Summer Battle

Keen to compete or curious to watch, everyone is welcome this Friday.

Manu’s are the classic kiwi summer competition off bridges, into harbours or neighbourhood pools and now will be featured at the Makino Aquatic Centre as part of the Summer Battle on Friday 26 January.  Free to enter, participants can battle it out for the ‘biggest splash’ or keep dry and compete in the ‘best trick competition’ at the skate park.  It is the last Friday of the summer holidays for most students and what better way to showcase the skills of our youth.

“Skateboarders are often unfairly discredited, and our skatepark has a reputation as being an unsafe location in Feilding.  The reality is that a lot of the young people that skateboard are extremely talented,” says Joey Mckechnie, Youth Engagement Coordinator.  “The hope of Summer Battle is to give youth a place to showcase their skill while revitalising a central activity hub in Feilding.”

With the pool, skatepark and even mini golf in such close proximity it’s the ideal spot to host the event.  Onboard Skate School will judge the skate competition and will be looking at the difficulty of the trick.  With three different age categories for both competitions, competitors ages 13 and older are welcome to register on the day.  The ‘best trick competition’ will be hosted at the Feilding Skatepark at the corner of Aorangi and Hobson Street, Feilding.  Registrations open at 11am with the competition taking place from 12-3pm. The ‘bomb comp’ will follow with registrations opening at 3pm, competition starting at 4pm at the Makino Aquatic Centre’s dive pool.  You can register for one or both competitions.  Registration is free and you do not have to live within the district to compete.  Rapid Relief will also be on site hosting a sausage sizzle.  Whether you are keen to compete or are curious and keen to watch, everyone is welcome.
