Feilding students compete for Agricultural glory in the Deep South
In early July, six students from Feilding Intermediate School earned a spot to compete in the AgriKidsNZ grand final competition.
The teams, known as the ‘Agricultural Adventurers’ and ‘Three Musketeers’, not only competed to qualify but completed community service tasks earning additional qualifying points. The teams helped with fencing, cleaning of schools, and bake sales before braving a bumpy flight down to Invercargill.
AgriKidsNZ showcases New Zealand’s future farming leaders in an action-packed competition, encouraging young learners to develop a passion for animals and agriculture.
Out of seven regional teams, the top three from each region competed over the weekend (3–5 July), through quizzes, team based challenges, and seven hands-on modules. These modules all related to agriculture, whether it was general farming, safety knowledge or re-enacting tasks such as milking cows and unlocking gates. The students explained that one practical task included picking up balls in tractor buckets and dropping them in boxes.
Proudly representing Manawatū, Feilding Intermediate’s Three Musketeers came 4th and their Agricultural Adventurers came 8th overall out of 21 teams! The Agricultural Adventurers came 1st in the quiz and were also awarded MVP in the regional ‘vote off’ challenge! The future of our Manawatū farmers is in safe hands!
Manawatū District Council is proud to have supported these local legends through our Representative Fund. The students shared their positive experience with Council this past Thursday, reflecting on the activities, the travel and the fun times they shared in the deep south. As these students move in to Year 9 in 2026, their future endeavours are already looking bright.
Congratulations teams!
