The First Step to Voting is Knowing Who’s Stepped Up

With the local elections just around the corner, 19 candidates have stepped forward, ready to represent our District. Before you tick a box, take the time to get to know who’s standing and what they stand for.  Voting is more than a civic duty, it’s your chance to shape the future of the Manawatū District.

This year, Council is making it easier than ever to learn about the people competing for your vote. Alongside self-submitted candidate profiles and photographs, we’ve invited each candidate to take part in a short video interview. Every candidate answers the same set of questions, in the same timeframe, ensuring a fair and consistent introduction for voters. The questions were provided in advance to help candidates prepare, so you can hear them at their best.

While Council remains politically neutral and will not be hosting candidate events, we’re helping promote opportunities for the public to meet the candidates in person. Across the District, community-led ‘Meet the Candidate’ events are being organised by local groups, and we’ve listed them all on our website

Local government decisions touch every part of daily life, from the roads you drive, to the services you use, to the plans shaping your neighbourhood’s future. Before you cast your vote, we encourage you to read the profiles, watch the videos, attend candidate events, and ask the questions that matter most to you.

Every informed vote counts. The first step is knowing who has stepped up to represent you. For candidate profiles, videos, and information on ‘Meet the Candidate’ events, visit Elections & Voting | Manawatū District Council
