Like-Minded Mates Turned Community Committee Leaders
Intrigued by a good mate and a great yarn, a group of Āpiti locals have come together around a different table than they’re used to. What began as a conversation has since led to new involvement in the Āpiti Community Committee. Following Āpiti Community Committee’s Triennial meeting, seven members have joined including a new leadership board for the 2025-2028 triennium: Colbie Le Quesne (Chairperson), Alex McIntosh (Secretary) and Aaron Cameron (Treasurer).
Aaron Cameron runs the Āpiti Tavern, getting to know the wider community on the daily, including locals Colbie Le Quesne and Alex McIntosh. Aaron recognised the civic minds and leadership qualities they shared and casually suggested to the crew they give being part of the Community Committee a shot. “It was the perfect storm” Aaron said, as their friendship, shared passions and support saw them try something different together. They attended Āpiti Community Committee’s triennial meeting in December 2025, where they accepted leadership roles, proudly passing over the torch from the long-standing members who were stepping down.
The trio are joining a ten-member committee made up of three existing members and seven new additions, diving headfirst into the new experience together. Alex McIntosh (Secretary) shared he is ready to take on the adventure, trying something different and helping to make things happen for their village. Colbie Le Quesne (Chairperson) is taking on the leadership role as an opportunity to apply his skills and passions and to encourage wider community involvement in shaping Āpiti. Aaron Cameron (Treasurer) shares his pride for getting younger members involved “making sure the voice of the community is heard”. They’ve already started brainstorming their first community survey, to be actioned prior to their first Committee meeting for the triennium.
