Rongotea Community Committee

Two large landowners in Otago were responsible for founding the township of Rongotea and the surrounding area. Partners in the enterprise were the Hon. Robert Campbell of Otekaike and John Douglas of Mt Royal who bought the 21,400 acre “Oroua Downs Estate” in the Township of Carnarvon. Founded in 1879, the town has grown and developed into a bustling small rural settlement with a school, four churches and Te Kawau Memorial Recreational Centre.

Rongotea Community’s vision is to be a safe, caring, healthy and connected hub of Te Kawau District.
