Feilding’s Young Creatives Benefit from Funding
From colourful marker strokes to splashes of paint and clay creations, creativity is alive and well in Feilding. The Feilding and District Art Society is a recipient of funding from the Creative Communities Scheme, supported by Creative New Zealand. This funding enables the Society to deliver its Children’s Affordable Art Classes, ensuring more local tamariki have the chance to explore their imagination, develop new skills, and connect through art.
Led by Society Manager Ms Eris Newson, the programme combines Art Therapy principles with education to create inclusive, engaging classes that support diversity and encourage confidence. With more than 20 years of experience as an art educator, Ms Newson is committed to making art both accessible and enjoyable for children aged 5–15.
“These classes are about more than just learning how to draw or paint,” said Ms Newson. “They give our young people the chance to express themselves, to feel proud of what they create, and to be part of a supportive environment. Thanks to this funding, we can continue making art accessible for all tamariki, no matter their background or ability.”
With the support of the Creative Communities Scheme, has meant that classes have remained reasonably priced and widely available, helping to nurture the next generation of young artists in Feilding and the wider district.
This round of funding closes this Sunday August 31. For more information about the Creative Communities Scheme or to apply, please visit: Creative Communities Fund | Manawatū District Council (mdc.govt.nz)
