Feilding Student Takes On A Mid-Winter Hockey Tournament
Feilding High School student Ephraim Yearbury recently competed in the Vantage National U18 Men’s Hockey Tournament held in South Canterbury with support from Council's Representative Fund.
Despite battling winter ills and chills, Yearbury was determined to make the most of this opportunity and travelled to the South Island to represent the Manawatū District. The tournament was hosted by South Canterbury Hockey Association, held at Aorangi Park from Sunday 29th June to Saturday 5th July.
Watching from the sidelines during the first two games ignited a fire in Yearbury, as his passion fueled his determination to get back on the turf. In total, Yearbury competed in four games - an awesome effort, representing the Manawatū on a regional level.
Yearbury shared his experience with Council in early August, explaining he gained a lot from this challenging experience. It reaffirmed his eagerness to succeed, as he shared his desire to play for Whanganui in the future, which he calls his “origin region”.
Yearbury’s motivation, positive attitude and resilience is something we can all learn from. As a Representative Fund Recipient, Manawatū District Council prides Yearbury on his efforts and dedication to the sport – for powering through adversity in the face of challenges.
Congratulations Ephraim!
