Futureproofing Feilding: New Community Housing Approved
On Thursday 18 September, Manawatū District Council approved support for Manawatū Community Trust’s (MCT) plans to build 12 new accessible and affordable rental homes at the Corrick Court housing complex on Beattie Street, Feilding.
Since its establishment in 2008, MCT has provided affordable housing and facilities that support health and wellbeing services across the district. The Trust currently manages 205 homes across 15 sites in Feilding, Rongotea, and Sanson, and owns a number of community facilities including the custom-built health premises on Duke St, Feilding.
As outlined in MCT’s 2025–2026 Statement of Intent, the Trust aims to grow its housing portfolio by 45 units, expanding from 205 to 250 homes by 2030. Council’s support will help make the construction of the ten one-bedroom and two two-bedroom homes at Corrick Court more affordable, ensuring the project delivers greater value to the community. These homes will be built to LifeMark standards to improve accessibility and will meet the needs of older residents and people living with disabilities.
MCT’s purpose aligns with the values and priorities of Council supporting the Manawatū District and community; ‘A place to belong and grow’ and ‘Value for money and excellence in local government’. The project also aligns with the Manawatū Housing Strategic Plan, which prioritises increasing housing supply, improving affordability, and supporting community wellbeing.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with an 18-month build programme. “This project will follow our Manawanui Complex development of four two-bedroom accessible homes which are currently being built on Prince Street in Feilding. It marks another key milestone towards our goal and is an important development for us,” said MCT General Manager Teresa Hague. Healthy, affordable homes and secure tenure offer benefits that extend well beyond providing shelter. They strengthen whānau, reduce financial hardship, improve wellbeing, and contribute to the economic vitality of the community.
This MCT project is an exciting development for Feilding, futureproofing as our population continues to grow, maintaining the Manawatū District as the perfect place to call home for generations to come.
