Emergency preparation is vital to support you and your whānau (family) during a civil defence or emergency scenario.  Just as the competition tagline reinforces, “Ready Today, Safe Tomorrow”.

Here are three easy steps to get prepared!

1. Stay informed! A solar, battery powered or car radio will keep you updated on the latest news. Social media is another option.
2. Create a household emergency plan. Have a kōrero (conversation) and practice your plan with your family, letting each other know what to do and how to get ready for an emergency. Download a plan template here: English Make a Plan Form
3. Prepare a grab bag with the things you would need if you had to evacuate without notice. Supplies are most likely already throughout your house. This might include: Warm clothes and walking shoes, raincoat and hat, water, snack food, formula and pet supplies, portable phone charger etc.
