Voting is Open — It’s Time to Step Up
Voting is officially open for the 2025 local elections, and residents across the Manawatū District are encouraged to check their mailboxes, grab their voting papers, and step up to have their say.
Over the coming days, all enrolled voters will receive their voting packs in the post. Inside, you’ll find your voting papers, candidate information and voters will be asked to make a decision on the future of the Māori Ward for the Manawatū District.
Once you’ve made your choices, simply post your completed papers back, or drop them into one of the 20 orange voting bins located throughout the District.
New this election year, you will see pop-up voting bins around the community. Whether you're heading to the supermarket, picking up a pie, or attending a local event, keep your voting papers handy. If you spot the orange bin, you’re in the right place to cast your vote.
MDC Deputy Electoral Officer Ash Garstang says Council is aiming to make voting as easy, visible, and inclusive as possible.
“We want to see people vote in ways that fit into their everyday lives, whether they’re out running errands or catching up with friends. That’s why we’ve placed orange bins in 20 locations, along with one-off pop-up sites around the District.”
If you haven’t yet registered to vote, there’s still time to cast a special vote. This can be done in person at the Council administration office (135 Manchester Street, Feilding) or at one of the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (64 Stafford Street, Feilding). Alternatively, you can contact the Council to request that a special vote is posted to you in the mail (prior to 26 September).
Candidate profiles and detailed information about the referendum are available on the Manawatū District Council website. (linked)
If you’ve received your papers — read up, fill them in, and drop them off.
Your vote is your voice!
Voting closes at 12 noon on Friday 11 October.
