Welcoming Council for the New Triennium
The final week of October has marked the first week of the triennium for Council. With the official swearing in ceremony and first Council meeting now complete, Mayor Michael Ford has appointed Cr Grant Hadfield as Deputy Mayor and Elected Members have welcomed in the triennium with a bang.
The official swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday night at Te Āhuru Mōwai in Feilding, and saw Elected Members sign their declarations, promising their faith, best skill and judgement in the best interests of the Manawatū District. With an audience of community, friends, whānau and MDC staff, Elected Members embraced and celebrated their Council responsibilities, standing for the Manawatū District and local communities. The room was full of admiration, pride and momentum.
At the first Council meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Michael Ford ticked off one of his first Mayoral duties, announcing the appointment of Cr Grant Hadfield as Deputy Mayor. Mayor Ford spoke on the appointment and his appreciation for the partnership they’ve shared over the last 6 years. Cr Hadfield’s commitment, reliability, banter and down-to-earth nature is what Mayor Ford shared makes their trustworthy relationship beneficial for Council and the community. Cr Hadfield has 6 years of Council experience under his belt and is now entering his third term. Met with applause, Elected Members all voted in favour of the appointment, signalling an exciting new chapter for Council.
Welcoming in the 2025-2028 triennium marks a historic moment for the Manawatū District, and on behalf of MDC, we congratulate our Elected Members and look forward to their mahi shaping the District for years to come.
