Bin it to win it as food scraps collection turns one
Feilding’s food scraps collection is turning one, and households are being encouraged to get their bins kerbside for the chance to win an e-bike or a $200 grocery voucher.
Manawatū District Council is marking the first year of the service with Bin It to Win It, a competition designed to encourage regular users to keep up the habit, those who may have stopped to give it another go, and those who haven’t yet used their food scraps bin to get started.
Entering is simple.
Put your food scraps bin out on collection day. When the bin is emptied, it is scanned by the collection truck and the household is automatically entered into the draw.
There are no forms to fill out, photos to take or separate entries required.
“Over the past year we’ve seen plenty of households make food scraps collection part of their routine, but we know there are also bins out there that haven’t made it to the kerb for a while or perhaps at all", Wiremu Greening, MDC Utilities Manager explains.
“Whether you put yours out every collection or you’re ready to give it another go, let’s get more food scraps going into the food scraps bin rather than the rubbish.”
Bin It to Win It runs from 12 October until 28 November, with an e-bike and a $200 grocery voucher up for grabs.
Every eligible collection and scan during the competition period provides another entry into the draw.
Put it out. We scan it. You’re in.
