Clearer signage rolls at mobile recycling centres
New signage has been rolled out at mobile recycling centres across the Manawatū District, making it easier to see what can and can’t be recycled while carrying a stronger message about littering and illegal dumping.
For most MDC mobile recycling centres, glass is sorted by colour, with all other accepted recyclables in the same bin. But what doesn’t belong in the bin, doesn’t belong beside it either.
The mobile recycling centres are for accepted household recycling only. General rubbish, furniture, building waste and other unwanted items need to be disposed of through an appropriate waste service.
Dumping items at the sites creates additional clean-up costs, can make the centres unpleasant for other users and takes away from a service that is there to help our smaller communities recycle.
So, next time you visit one of the District’s mobile recycling centres, take a quick look at the new signage before unloading. If it’s accepted, pop it in. If it’s not, please take it with you.
Mobile recycling centres are available in communities across the Manawatū District, including Āpiti, Halcombe, Himatangi Beach, Kimbolton, Pohangina, Rongotea, Sanson and Tangimoana.
