Coming Together for a Shared Cause this Daffodil Day
Feilding Clocktower is glowing yellow this week in support of Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day this Friday, 28 August. Manawatū Community Hub Libraries and Makino Aquatic Centre are also getting behind the cause, collecting donations and helping raise awareness.
Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Day fundraises for vital donations to support people and whānau affected by cancer throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Donations help provide free cancer support services, practical assistance, accommodation and transport to treatment, while also contributing to cancer research. With 81 New Zealanders diagnosed with cancer every day, the impact of cancer extends far beyond the individual, affecting friends, whānau and wider support networks.
Makino Aquatic Centre (10 Council Place, Feilding) and Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (64 Stafford Street, Feilding) are selling paper daffodils at their front counters with a fundraising stand at Te Āhuru Mōwai’s Bowen Street entrance from 10am–3pm on Friday, where paper daffodil brooches, pens and bunches of fresh daffodils available in exchange for a donation.
For the first time, Feilding’s clocktower is illuminated yellow from Monday 24 until Saturday 29 August. Reflecting the colour of the daffodil, the warm yellow glow serves as a visible reminder of the fundraiser, shining a light on a difficult reality for many while symbolising hope, remembrance and support for those affected by cancer.
This Daffodil Day, Council encourages residents to show their support by visiting one of the participating facilities, making a donation and supporting the important work of the Cancer Society.
