Every Wag Deserves a Lifetime Tag, Your Dog's Registration is Due
Your loyal furry friend deserves tail-wagging adventures around the District, and as their owner, you deserve peace of mind knowing they’re supported by dog safety protocols and services that help keep them safe. Dog registration helps make this possible, and now’s the time to register your dog for another year with Manawatū District Council by Friday 31 July 2026.
If your pup is over three months old, they are legally required to be registered with their local Council. Dogs registered in the Manawatū District receive a lifetime tag, a sustainable, reusable tag that is made from recycled materials and designed to last. By removing the requirement for a new annual tag, it makes the registration process is simpler than ever.
Manawatū District residents also receive a complimentary Doggone membership with their dog registration. Paired with Council’s registration database, Doggone provides extra peace of mind and helps reunite lost dogs with their owners. Each registration tag includes a unique Doggone code, so if your dog goes walkabout, the finder can text the unique code to help connect the dog back with their whānau.
But, dog registration is more than just a tag! It supports Council’s Animal Control team to deliver important dog control services across the Manawatū District, including administering bylaws, policies and legislation such as the Dog Control Act 1996. This work supports community safety, encourages responsible dog ownership, helps reunite lost pets with their owners, responds to reports of roaming or aggressive dogs, manages dog-related complaints, maintains accurate National Dog Database records, and supports the animal shelter, where impounded dogs receive care, shelter and daily exercise.
Do your bit for your furry friend and complete your registration before 31 July 2026 and you’ll receive a discounted rate. You can complete your registration:
- Online at Dog Registration | Manawatū District Council, or
- In person at MDC’s Administration building, 135 Manchester Street, Feilding.
