Final Stage of Turners Road Extension Awarded

Council is thrilled to announce the appointment of Stringfellows Civil Engineering Contractors as the successful tenderer for the final stage of the Turners Road extension project.

The three-stage project delivers a 1.2 kilometre link between Turners Road and Kawakawa Road in Feilding, along with an upgrade of the Darragh Road / Turners Road intersection. These improvements will further open up the Kawakawa Industrial and Agribusiness Park to industry and developers.

Stringfellows Civil Engineering Contractors has successfully delivered stage one and is currently completing the bridge installation works. It is great to see continuity of delivery across all three stages of the project.

The final stage of construction was awarded by Council on 15 April and will be funded across the 2025/26 and 2026/27 budgets. This funding was previously approved and consulted on as part of the 2024–34 Long Term Plan.

Mayor Ford praised both the project and its long-term vision for the district:

“It’s wonderful to see the confidence from businesses that have already invested and are operating in the Turners Road area. This growth area aligns with the Te Utanganui regional freight hub development, further strengthening connections across the Manawatū Region.”

While the contract award is exciting, reaching the final stage of the project is a significant milestone. The first contract was originally awarded in late 2022, with work later deferred due to funding constraints. The second contract was subsequently awarded in October 2025 and is on track for completion by the end of April 2026.

Once completed, the Turners Road extension will play a key role in supporting growth, improving connectivity, and enabling further development in the district’s industrial and agri-business sector.
