Response: | The information you have requested is below. We have rules under Part 13 of the Public Places bylaw 2020 that limit the driving of vehicles on beaches to areas designated by Council Public-Places-Bylaw-2020-amendments-22-Sep-22.pdf (mdc.govt.nz) Also under part 19 of the Traffic Safety and Road Use Bylaw 2023 Traffic-Safety-and-Road-Use-Bylaw-2023-Final.pdf (mdc.govt.nz) Manawatū District Council (MDC) does not have specific guidance on driving on beaches on our website or by brochure. MDC have two Compliance and Enforcement Officers who are responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and enforcement of all bylaws and regulations. Council has not issued any infringements for the offence of driving on the beach in breach of our bylaws MDC have not received any complaints specifically relating to driving on the beach in breach of our bylaws however, there have been concerns raised during community meetings over the speed of cars along the beach front in the area designated by Council for driving. These matters have been referred to Police and Police patrols were increased over the summer period. |
