Be in to win a Pizza Party for your school!

We’re running a competition throughout the month of November to encourage schools in the Manawatu District to collect clean plastic bottle lids, such as those on milk bottles and soft drink bottles.

The winner of the competition will receive a Pizza Party, with pizza and sides* delivered to the winning school on a date/time in December, specified by the school.

Currently the nationwide kerbside recycling rules from the Ministry for the Environment state lids should not be put in your kerbside recycling bins. This is due to them being small and causing issues with some of the sorting and recycling machines. HOWEVER, Manawatu District Council have the opportunity to send the lids collected from this competition to Future Post (www.futurepost.co.nz) to be made into environmentally friendly, long-lasting fenceposts!

The winner will be the school that collects the most lids per student. For example, 1000 lids collected, divided by 40 students, equals an average of 25 lids collected per student.

Lids will need to be counted by the school, with the total number to be emailed to infrastructure@mdc.govt.nz by 5pm on Monday 2 December 2024. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 4 December 2024.

Please note schools will need to provide their own box/bag/fadge to store collected lids.
