Free Fun Day this Sunday

The Free Family Fun Day is back this Sunday from 10am to 1pm at Kowhai Park in Feilding.

A fun day out for a family easily adds up when you take into account transportation costs, the activities when you arrive, food, drinks and souvenirs.  Likewise, these events are expensive to run.  “There are some amazing, community minded local businesses owners that know the importance of giving back whether that be through sponsorship, or through time and talents.  Together, we’ve partnered for the second year in a row to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or income can come together to have a fun day out in Feilding,” Marie Willis Community Hub Programmes Leader explains.

The event features inflatables, popcorn, soft play equipment, balloon blasters and more while also giving the chance to community groups and clubs to host a booth to gain members or build awareness of their work.  With 27 clubs and organisations taking part on the day there will be something for everyone who might be looking for a new outreach.

“We were amazed and how many people joined us last year.  This however did result in longer lines for certain activities and with the sunny forecast for this Sunday, we expect long lines again this year,” Willis says.  “We thank everyone in advance for their understanding and patience.”

Joey Mckechnie, Youth Engagement Coordinator has joined forced with Willis again this year to help organise the event.  With the community at the heart of their roles, Mckechnie understands the value in offering a free event in an often financially challenging time for families. It’s a unique opportunity for the community to come together.  “The number of stall holders, volunteers and sponsors who are supporting the festivities reinforces the community spirit that Feilding holds,” he said.

While there are many Manawatū District Council staff who have volunteered their time for the day, Volunteer Central has also been instrumental in connecting willing hands to roles for the day.  The event is taking place in Kowhai Park this Sunday from 10am to 1pm.

A big thank you to the sponsors and volunteers.  For all of the details or to see the sponsors list visit: Family Fun Day 2024 | Manawatū District Libraries (
