Recycling Audits
Throughout September, our refuse and recycling contractors will be completing kerbside audits of the contents within recycling bins throughout Feilding.
This means that if a recycling bin is contaminated, it will be stickered and not collected.
Why we are auditing?
There has been an increase in contaminated items placed into recycling bins. Contamination is classed as:
- Food scraps
- Soft plastic
- Polystyrene
- Nappies
- Green waste
- Rubbish
- Any non-recyclable product defined by MfEs kerbside collection rules (plastics 3, 4,6 & 7)
The contamination of one bin can containment the entire truck which means it ALL goes to landfill. It’s important to recycle as much as we can.
Not only does recycling maximise the use of our resources, prevent pollution and reduce greenhouse gases, recycling also saves you, as our residents and ratepayers, money! The more you recycle, the less you spend on rubbish bags and the less MDC has to spend on landfill disposal!
My bin received a sticker, what do I do?
If your recycling is not collected due to contamination, please:
- Remove any offending items,
- Remove the contamination sticker,
- On your next collection day, place your bin back out for collection.
If your bin is too full to wait until your next recycling collection day you can
- Remove any offending items and
- Take your recycling to the recycling drop off out the front of the Resource Recovery Centre, 247 Kawakawa Road, Feilding.
What can be recycled then?
Items that can be recycled are:
- plastic containers with recycling symbols 1, 2 & 5,
- tins and cans,
- paper and cardboard (including milk and juice cartons) in your wheelie bin.
- You can recycle glass bottles and jars in your black crate.
