Rural Rubbish Collection Changes
Colyton, Pohangina and some collection routes in Halcombe's rubblish collection day will move to Wednesday as of 1 May.
As of 1 May, the Council blue rubbish bags will be collected on Wednesday instead of Monday in all of Colyton, Pohangina and some collection routes in Halcombe.
The change to collection days are in support of our Solid Waste Contractor to implement a four-day work week for drivers performing this collection which in turn provides drivers with three days off for recovery. Our Contractor have already adopted a four-day work week with three days off for several of their other contracts throughout New Zealand. Their observations indicate that this schedule has resulted in fewer accidents due to reduced fatigue and a noticeable decrease in injuries affecting the back, knees, and other areas.
To confirm your collection day, use the maps on below. The outlined routes will all now have a Wednesday collection day with the first Wednesday collection taking place on Wednesday 7 May. You can continue to leave your bags at the locations you currently use, whether that be at your gate or a drop off point. A reminder that bags must be at collection sites by 7:30am.
